I love to participate in local art exhibits.  As much as I like to show my work outside of Central Florida I believe it is important for an artist to be a part of their local art community.
Therefore I am happy to announce that I am one the artists invited to show at the Lake Mary Museum of History in beautiful Lake Mary, Seminole County,  Florida.
I will be exhibiting two of my watercolors that I hope show the beauty of nature in Central Florida - "Morning Pinks" and "Wild Oranges."
The staff at the museum is one of the nicest and strongest supporters of arts in Seminole County, Florida and it is an honor to be a part of this group of exceptional regional artists.

If you would like to see the exhibit it will be showing August 5 through September 9, 2017 - Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10AM to 3PM and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11AM to 7PM. Admission is free.

Artists paint portraits of people, they paint portraits of animals and family pets.  I chose many years ago to paint portraits of homes.  I call them "House Portraits" but they are much more than a painting of a building.
When I meet with a client that has chosen me to create a painting of their home, I chat with them about the history of the house, where it is, how long they have lived there, perhaps their family life and the special moments that they remember from this particular home or building.
We talk about the colors of the house, the foliage, the time of year the photo reference was taken. These are the nuts and bolts of working with the patron and creating the painting.  But I feel that sometimes the most important thing a client can share is their memories and experiences.  This is what I keep in mind when I create these very special house portraits.  It is the essence of being in a unique, special home that I feel carries through into the work.
I had a friend tell me that she wouldn't think of having a portrait done of her home - that her house it is nothing special or grand.  I think of it differently -- it is special, grand, and wonderful because it is her home and a wonderful, unique, and warm place to remember.  It is much more than walls, a roof, windows, doors and a lawn.  It is where family happens.
So, why not your house?  Think about capturing it in a special light, a special time of year.  Think of it as something your kids, grandkids and other family members will treasure for years to come.  Why not your house -- because it is the most special place in the world.

I am so delighted to announce I have been accepted to show my original watercolor painting "Goodies for Your Garden" in the Watch Your Garden Grow Art Exhibit at The Art of Healing Gallery at Florida Hospital Altamonte, Altamonte Springs, Florida.  The art will be on exhibit beginning March 14, 2017 and will remain in the gallery for 2-3 months.
Florida Hospital Altamonte has for many years hosted juried art exhibits for their onsite gallery at the Hospital. While you may not think of a hospital as the ideal place to display art, I have always welcomed the opportunity to be a part of these wonderful exhibits that Florida Hospital so graciously puts on.  Art is part of healing and many patients, visitors and staff members welcome the opportunity to take some time to set aside the challenges of their day and take in some beautiful and inspiring artwork.  Florida Hospital also kindly allows us to sell our work with part of the sale price going back to Florida Hospital to enable them to keep this gift to the community going.
Art is about sharing and giving and itis an honor to be a part of this particular venue.

"Good Neighbors"

Each year the Central Florida Watercolor Society has an annual exhibit.  As a member I am eligible to submit paintings for acceptance but there is no guarantee my work that my work will be chosen and juried in.  But I am happy to say my watercolor painting, "Good Neighbors" was one of 45 pieces chosen to show in this special exhibit.  I have been a member of the Society for about 20 years and it is always an honor to participate in a show like this.
The exhibit runs February 1st through April 1 at the SoBo Gallery in Winter Garden, Florida.  The Gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  You can find directions and information on their website:

I'm Exhibiting the Art League of Daytona through December 3, 2016

A few weeks ago I submitted my work to a wonderful exhibit here on our Florida coast and I awaited Hurricane Matthew. Matthew was not kind and the exhibit did not open as scheduled.  But now everything is back on track!
My watercolor paintings, "Shadowed Memories" and "Treacherous Landing" are exhibiting at the Art League of Daytona in the Members Showcase exhibit. This exhibit will be on display until December 3, 2016.

Artists for years have used things like panel, board, canvas, and paper on which to create their work. As a watercolor artist the traditional substrate I thought I was supposed to use was paper, specifically watercolor paper.  Watercolor paper is cold or hot press, and comes in weights like 140 pound and 300 pound.  It is designed to work with watercolor pigments and water, absorbing these and in many ways limiting the freedom to correct and just let the colors and thoughts flow when creating a painting. It's something I got to used to as a watercolor artist and I always dreaded the need to make a fix on paper.  And then came Yupo.

What the heck is Yupo?  If you look at the site Yupo Synthetic Paper, YUPO is"...100% recyclable, waterproof, tree-free Synthetic Paper with attributes and properties that make it the perfect solution for a variety of marketing, design, packaging and labeling needs..."  Which sounds fairly technical, ecologically great, a little daunting, and makes you wonder how it can be paper if its, well, plastic. No matter.  As an artist all I care about is how to apply brilliant colors to Yupo,  how I can try to control and manipulate it, and how in the end I basically have to let it do what it wants with my watercolor applications. Which is where the best fun and the best results happen.  Sometimes it's good to loose control if the results are good for you.
